Save Our Pool

A Golden Anniversary Fundraising Running Event. Celebrating 50 Years of Swimming at Walton le Dale.

Dear Parents, Grandparents and Members of the Community, Please read this letter and support this important event for our school.

It is our swimming pool’s 50th birthday.  Since the local community of parents and friends raised funds and built this valuable facility, it has allowed thousands of children the opportunity to become strong, capable swimmers for life.  Some of you reading this letter may have even learned to swim in this very pool yourselves. Our School Council would like to invite you to get involved in an important project they are working on and ask for your full support to help raise funds.  This funding will help maintain the pool for the children of our community now and in future years.  At Walton le Dale, we appreciate that we are very fortunate having our own swimming pool on site and we would like to make every effort to maintain this facility for the years to come.

The Idea

Last year, we introduced the ‘Mile’, which allows our older children to take a short break from the classroom to run.  This has allowed the children a physical ‘rest break’ from class and it has created an additional opportunity to help them become fitter.

It has been a popular activity with the older children and a route around the school has been established to help them accomplish this on a regular basis.

The School Council would now like to invite the whole school to take part in a special week encouraging every class to take part in a daily mile to raise money for improvements to the school pool.  This promotional week will take place after half term, starting on the week beginning Monday 8th July and finish on Friday 12th. (A slightly reduced and different route will be established for our infants, using the grounds of the school that they are already aware of and use on a regular basis).

Recognising the effort made

The children within our School Council would like to encourage all of our families to put themselves forward to make a difference.  They have suggested that all children raising £25 or more will be awarded with an achievement medal for their effort.  All those raising £50 will be awarded with a shields/plaque recognising their significant support.  Those reaching an incredible £100 will be awarded a trophy recognising their incredible efforts to support this community project.  With parental permission, we would like our children to spread the word of this project as far as possible.

Please help us. If we all work together, we can make a real difference!
